Gradually, little health issues as a teenager fast became a normal part of everyday life, however, over the next 10 years my symptoms took over to the point that I was ill as much as I felt normal. It became very difficult to hide on a daily basis and clients were beginning to notice. I focused on post production as it is something you can do from home with the right training, experience and equipment and was adaptable to my body's ability to function. I simplified my life, backed off the more stressful jobs with insane expectations and had a great life by anyone's standards on the surface, still working on really exciting jobs just much less frequently, but was really struggling to keep up with the needs of even my favourite clients and my friends and social life. No doctors could shed any light and so I thought it must be stress, which we all know can cause a multitude of problems but it got to the point where there was obviously something else going on with my body and I knew I needed help. It took a few more years in France where my health deteriorated further, and more often, to actually find out what was going on. After seeing countless doctors and specialists and being sent all over the place getting test after test and put on many completely inappropriate medications, with diagnoses and diet advice that just made me worse, I really did not know where to turn. They were the most challenging years but I always remained grateful for everything I had, so I focused on that and still even managed to work enough for loyal or flexible clients on the days I felt ok, so no-one had to know for a long time. I learnt a lot by researching online when I was too ill to leave my apartment. I planned everything I was going to do when I got better, did lots and lots of online courses and coped the best I could to stay positive and made the most of the wonderful moments I still had.
I was finally diagnosed with a rare form of Dysautonomia (thank you Dr Moinet, I literally owe this man my life), I had more tests to make sure and put on a strong cocktail of medication to manage the symptoms by forcing my organs to function, and prescribed a drastic lifestyle change including organic based diet specific to my body's needs and yoga was re-introduced for long term managment. This is a condition in which the ANS malfunctions, it affects the nerves that carry information from the brain and spinal cord to the heart, bladder, intestines, sweat glands, pupils and blood vessels. The medication worked, the next couple of years my health gradually improved and I started getting my life back, however, the problem was then that some of the medications should only be used very short term so, again on Doctor's orders I was looking into alternatives and came across doTERRA essential oils which a few of friends had mentioned. I knew essential oils had some merit and was excited to try but was absolutely shocked to no longer need any of the medication. Even then, I still had no idea how much these little brown bottles of precious therapeutic grade essential oils would change my life.
